Concern about falling is associated with segmental control when turning in older adults

چکیده

Healthy young adults typically exhibit a progressive ‘top-down’ reorientation of body segments (i.e., head, trunk, then pelvis) during turning. This behaviour is less evident in older at risk falling, who often reduce angular displacement between turns. The potential functional and psychological contributors to this so-called ‘en-bloc’ turning strategy are not yet understood. Are there associations concern about falling variables representing en-bloc increased coupling segments)? Twenty-one were assessed while an adaptive walking task. We collected data from markers forming the pelvis segments, gait velocity throughout turn was calculated sternum marker. correlated several with alone, as well controlling for balance ability. Correlation analyses revealed that related strategies slower turn, when analysed independently balance. When ability, head pelvis, remained significantly associated falling. Findings offer insight into role characteristics may have determining adults’

Falls and postural control in older adults with cataracts

Background: There is increasing evidence that visual impairment contribute to falling. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of vision impairment of old adult patients with cataract on the occurrence of falls and postural control. Methods:According to the results of screening ophthalmic examination, 48 cataract patients (mean±SD aged 68.5 ± 6.08 yrs.) and 50 individuals withou...

Does dual task training improve walking performance of older adults with concern of falling?

BACKGROUND Older adults with concerns of falling show decrements of gait stability under single (ST) and dual task (DT) conditions. To compare the effects of a DT training integrating task managing strategies for independent living older adults with and without concern about falling (CoF) to a non-training control group on walking performance under ST and DT conditions. METHODS Single center ...
